PERCUSSION is the animated sculpture who is the main character of the third movement of the BEING SOUND SUITE.
PERCUSSION is a hybrid frog, a cross-breed of four musical instruments –cymbals, conga, maracas and jingle bell. The third movement of this suite is performed in a swamp, a resounding impressionist pond. PERCUSSION jumps from a Water-lily-phone to another Water-lily-phone, following the rythm of a Wind section, which dances to the sound of a choir of Sun-reeds. Strings, in blue velvet, goes around the bellflower brambles running after a Flypiano, a supporting character that -going from flower to flower- draws the relation between the instrumental lines of the concert. Using amphibian arts, PERCUSSION tries to capture the winged-piano along the multi-colour pavement of Globe-stones, going through the shadows of Smilies, the funniest tree. But when PERCUSSION swallows the butterfly, the law of gravity is inverted and a psychadelic world blows up. First the stones and then other objects lose their weight and levitate while the whole scene is subject to an ever-changing compulsive psychadelic texture. Wind avoids the nature that levitates in heaven until the sound from the lysergic bellflowers changes again the tempo. This variation precipitates the resounding fall of the globes that fall into water like stones; globes are followed by the rest of the supporting characters: Cactus the case, the Tropes, or the Nests. Note after note, the staff falls on the pond, towards the innerside of the ear.
